Google Maps can sometimes be deceiving - so stick with the directions below for the best and most accessible routes to Dzalanyama.

Please note: Even during the dry season, it's best to use a vehicle with higher ground clearance - Saloon vehicles may struggle along some of the dirt tracks. 

During the rainy season, you will need 4 wheel drive!

Signs haven't lasted too long so keep note of the GPS coordinates for major junctions.

Route 1:

The Mchinji Route:

From Lilongwe drive towards Zambia along the Mchinji Road, M12 for approximately 28km

Just before Msundwe, about 1km before the trading centre, turn left (There are no major landmarks, a blue construction sign is the most dominant feature and a wide turning that leads onto a wide dirt road) Road is labeled the D195 on GPS.

About 1km down this road, turn right down another wider dirt road (Latitude -14' 01.989'S Longitude 033' 29.976' E)

Keep Left at the fork

Continue down the main road, be careful across the bridges and pass Kachawe Estate (Latitude -14' 06.219' S Longitude 033' 29.811'E)

At the T-Junction, turn Left and through Ndaula Trading Centre (There's a filling station here) 

Just passed the trading centre, there is a school on your right, turn Right just after the school and continue straight along this dirt road towards the mountain.

Keep left at the fork at the ADMARC sign and at the next fork keep right through Kachere Village. at the junction, turn right to the gate of Dzalanyama Forest Reserve (Latitude -14' 13.293' S Longitude 033' 28.104' E)

Follow the road and simple wood signs to Dzalanyama Forest Lodge!

Route 2:

The Malingunde Dam Route:

From Lilongwe drive towards Likuni and continue straight all the way to Malingunde Dam, at the dam, there is a large cement wall on the left, turn right here (Longitude -14' 10.335'S 033' 38.308'E) 

 

Continue straight along this road, just before Ndaula Trading Centre, just before a small school on your left, turn left toward the mountain range.

Keep left at the fork at the ADMARC sign and at the next fork keep right through Kachere Village. at the junction, turn right to the gate of Dzalanyama Forest Reserve (Latitude -14' 13.293' S Longitude 033' 28.104' E)
